Digital Insurance Transactions Becoming More Popular

According to Harvard Business Review, a study was done to determine what type of relationship consumers wish to have with their healthcare plans to make their lives easier. A company called Cognizant surveyed healthcare companies across the U.S., leaving Medicare and Medicaid members out of the sample. Members stated that the best way for healthcare companies to provide the best service is to allow digital insurance transactions to be created and shared with their patients.

Why Digital Works

The study showed that 84% of people wanted to interact with their insurance companies digitally. Members want to be able to login to accounts, explore other plans in detail, print ID cards and to get lists of benefits right at their fingertips.

Mobile plays a big part in their requests. Apps or mobile-friendly sites so they can check the status of their plans on-the-go. Other added benefits that members would like to see is one touch prescription refills, GPS to find local pharmacies and the ability to schedule appointments online.

While many plans offer digital features and mobile, the big struggle all around tends to be handling insurance claims. Other big ones include: digitally estimating costs of procedures, delivery of statements, younger respondents, mobile pay, online personal health record, pick-your-own fitness incentives, and lists of surgeries that are not included under plans.

Will Health Insurers Move to Digital Insurance Transactions?

In the year 2017, many people can expect to see big moves in the healthcare insurance world. The pain point for many insurers is that a mobile app would not be used as much as an app for something like a retail store.

Many people who use apps are in and out of them daily, but for a person using an insurance app, they are only using these apps maybe a few times a year. It’s hard for insurers to justify digital tools and services when they are used significantly less than they might be worth to make and maintain.

To counter this, insurers need to offer perks for visiting such as points system.
