National Nurses Week is here. It’s time to appreciate all the nurses across the United States that work hard every day to care for and save lives. Here are some ways that you can show appreciation for nurses in and out of the workplace:
A Simple Gift:
A simple gift can be a great way to show appreciation for a nurse that you know. Being a nurse is far from easy, we are so happy we have them around! Many local businesses are taking part in NNW and offering discounts or donations to health charities during this week. Check your local establishments!
Dine for a Cause:
In addition to stores, restaurants are jumping on the National Nurses Week bandwagon and offering discounts to nurses. For example, The Melting Pot in Providence, RI is offering 20% off on all nurse checks. Just bring your badge with you and you’re set to go. Check your local restaurants to see what offers are around you.
Run for Nurses:
Are you a runner? Well no matter where you are located, you can run the virtual Grateful for Nurses 5K. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. Also, with every registration, there will be 20% donated to DWB from Virtual Run Events. Learn more and register here.
On the Cheap:
If you work in a facility that has many nurses, it may be hard to thank all of them in a special way. A great way to show them appreciation is receiving thank you cards from a nearby school. Simply contact a nearby elementary school and ask if a class can write up a few dozen than you cards. The appreciation, especially from strangers, will leave a lasting mark on any nurse!
Fun fact: The start is National Nurses Week always begins on May 6th. Why you ask? May 6th is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Nightingale became an icon in the 1800s. She proved that nurses were strong and left a lasting positive reputation on them. She paved this way by tending to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.
